West African Drumming

Suitable for all ages

  • Learn traditional West African rhythms as a group.
  • Play a variety of percussion instruments, including: Djembe, Dununs (Dundunba, Sangban and Kenkeni), bells.
  • Learn the cultural and historic context of the music, from countries including Mali, Ghana, Senegal and more.
  • Learn various arrangements, breaks, improvisation skills and hand drum techniques.
  • Performance opportunity at the end of the course.

Mixed Percussion

Primary Level

  • Learn a range of repertoire, on instruments including Piano, Djembe, Kpanlogo drums, Xylophones, Glockenspiels and Metallophones.
  • Work as an ensemble, developing foundational musical principles and full arrangements.
  • Learn a variety of  techniques and skills including components of the national curriculum for music.
  • Styles include Jazz, Pop, Soul, Funk, Caribbean and South American styles.
  • Performance opportunity at the end of the course.

  • Develop composing, arranging and performing skills, on instruments including Guitar, Bass, Keys/Piano, Drums, Percussion and Brass/Woodwind.

  • Cover a variety of contemporary musical styles and repertoire.
  • Learner-centric approach, incorporating students' own musical style and tastes.
